In ten days, the people of Saxony will be called to the polls. A poll shows how close the race for victory is.

With just over a week to go before the state elections in Saxony, it still looks like the CDU and AfD will be running neck-and-neck. According to a representative survey conducted by the Infratest-Dimap institute on behalf of ARD, the CDU would receive 31 percent and the AfD 30 percent if state elections were held next Sunday. The Sahra Wagenknecht coalition (BSW) would be the third strongest party with 14% of the vote. The polling institute puts the SPD at 7% and the Greens at 6%. The Left Party would not re-enter the state parliament with four percent.

A coalition of CDU, SPD and Greens is currently in power in Saxony. According to the results of the Sunday poll, the coalition would no longer have a majority.

This poll, for which 1,566 eligible voters in Saxony were surveyed by telephone or online, is not a forecast, but rather a reflection of the political mood in the current week. The Sunday poll measures current voting tendencies and not actual voting behavior. Many voters make up their minds shortly before an election, which is why the final phase of the election campaign with its targeted approach to undecided and tactical voters is so important.
