The increase in real estate transfer tax in Saxony has not yet generated the hoped-for revenue. This was the result of a minor inquiry by the AfD parliamentary group in the Saxon state parliament. Last year, this tax brought just under 390 million euros into the coffers, whereas 682 million euros had been planned. Saxony increased the real estate transfer tax from 3.5 to 5.5 percent at the start of the 2023/2024 double budget.
"The high land transfer tax means that families can only afford to buy their own home in the rarest of cases. The high tax is also a burden on the entire construction industry," explained AfD MP Thomas Thumm. Increasing this tax in the middle of a construction crisis is one of the "stupidest measures" taken by the government of Minister President Michael Kretschmer (CDU).
In the opinion of the AfD, the real estate transfer tax must be reduced to at least one percent. "It would be even better to suspend it temporarily or even abolish it completely in the long term," they said.
