Saxony's Green Party is heading into the state parliamentary elections on September 1 with Justice Minister Katja Meier, Environment and Energy Minister Wolfram Günther and parliamentary group leader Franziska Schubert.

The Saxon Greens are heading into the state elections on September 1 with a top trio. At a state party conference in Chemnitz on Saturday, the almost 120 delegates voted Justice Minister Katja Meier into first place on the state list with 92.79 percent of the vote. She was followed by Environment and Energy Minister Wolfram Günther with 91.3 percent and parliamentary group leader Franziska Schubert with 80 percent. A further 27 list places were also to be allocated. The Greens had already expressed their intention to remain in government in the run-up to the election.

In her candidacy speech, Meier emphasized the mobility transition, climate protection and a strong democracy. "September 1st is about freedom, humanity and justice". Environment Minister Günther emphasized the successes of the Greens in Saxony in recent years in the areas of environmental protection, nature conservation and the energy transition. "We have transformed Saxony from a brown coal state to a renewable energy state". Franziska Schuber was not present because she is about to give birth to her child.

In the 2019 state elections, the Greens received 8.6 percent of the vote in Saxony. They are currently polling at seven percent. According to the party, it currently has 3,600 members in Saxony.
