Saxony's head of government Kretschmer sides with Bavaria's Prime Minister Söder. He says: No coalition with the Greens.

The Prime Minister of Saxony, Michael Kretschmer (CDU), has spoken out clearly against a coalition between the CDU/CSU and the Greens after the federal elections. "You can't form a government with them anymore. They are out. They are responsible for a large part of the problems in this country," said Kretschmer at an election campaign event in Parchim, Mecklenburg. He cited refugee and energy policy as examples.

The SPD, on the other hand, is still a people's party. "We have to get them to finally hear the message with a very clear election result for the CDU and get them back on the path of virtue and solve the problems with us."

One could demonstrate for democracy, point out enemies of democracy and demand a stand. But: "The best way to defend democracy and the rule of law is to prove that democracy and the rule of law solve the problems. And the problems that people see and not the ones that have been thought up in the Berlin bubble."

The latest polls for the upcoming Bundestag elections put the CDU/CSU ahead on Sunday. In last week's ARD Deutschlandtrend, the CDU and CSU were at 32 percent. The AfD came in second with 21 percent, followed by the SPD and the Greens with 14 percent each. For the survey, the opinion research institute Infratest dimap interviewed 1,579 eligible voters from February 10 to 12.
