There was a software error in the state election in Saxony. The calculation of seats in the new state parliament was incorrect. The AfD is now demanding a complete clarification from the state electoral administration.

Following the software glitch in the calculation of the distribution of seats in the new Saxon state parliament, the AfD has demanded a complete clarification from the state electoral administration. In an open letter, the party has put numerous questions to the state electoral officer. Among other things, the party wants to know whether there was an investigation into the cause after the error was discovered and what the result was.

The recalculation following the error means that the AfD no longer has a third of the seats in the new state parliament and has lost its so-called blocking minority. With a blocking minority, certain state laws that require a two-thirds majority of all members of parliament can be prevented.

In Saxony, as in other federal states, constitutional judges and the head of the state court of auditors are elected with a two-thirds majority of all members of parliament. Certain posts could therefore not have been filled without AfD approval. It could also have prevented the state parliament from dissolving itself.

The AfD also wants to know what software was used, who developed it, how often it was tested and whether consequences were drawn following the mishap. The party expects the answers by September 23.
