There has been a long debate in Saxony about how to deal with the coronavirus pandemic. The AfD and BSW consider a committee of inquiry to be the best option. The work in the state parliament can now begin.

The Saxon state parliament's committee of inquiry into the coronavirus pandemic, which was requested by the AfD, is operational. The state parliament elected the members unanimously.

The committee consists of 18 members, with the CDU representing seven members, the AfD six and the Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance (BSW) two. The SPD, Greens and Left Party can each send one MP to the committee. The chairman is CDU politician Andreas Nowak, his deputy André Wendt (AfD).

The committee came into being at the instigation of the AfD and was set up at a special meeting on October 25. The majority of the BSW voted in favor of the AfD motion, while a similar motion by the BSW failed.

The other parties want to carry out the investigation with a commission of inquiry. The AfD also supports such a commission, which would focus more on lessons for future pandemics. According to the AfD, the committee should scrutinize the crisis policy of the Saxon government.
