Bird flu has broken out on a poultry farm in Grimma in the district of Leipzig. According to the district office, suspected avian influenza was confirmed on a farm with around 100 birds. According to media reports, the animals were killed to prevent the spread of the disease. The fire department supported the responsible veterinary office with decontamination measures.
The veterinary office of the district of Leipzig called on all poultry farmers to review their protective measures. It is recommended that poultry should only be kept indoors or in covered, wild bird-proof aviaries. According to the authorities, there have been more than 160 outbreaks in wild birds and 18 in poultry farms across Germany since the beginning of the year.
