Dresdner SC's volleyball players win after a tough battle against VfB Suhl Lotto Thüringen in a thrilling East derby

The Dresden SC volleyball players have won the second East derby of the Bundesliga intermediate round. After coach Alexander Waibl's team had lost 2:3 in Schwerin, the women from the city on the Elbe won their first home match against VfB Suhl Lotto Thüringen 3:2 (25:23, 25:18, 22:25, 20:25, 15:10) on Saturday after a rollercoaster ride and thus celebrated their first victory in this round.

The Dresden side dictated proceedings in front of 2418 spectators in the first two sets, in particular with a powerful service game, variable attacks and solid defending. Alexander Waibl also brought Sarah Straube and Grace Frohling back onto the court for the first time, both of whom had suffered torn ligaments in their feet a few weeks ago.

However, the third period was a back-and-forth affair, as Suhl fought its way into the game better and better, while Waibl's charges were not quite able to maintain their level. Nevertheless, the DSC already led 17:12. As the Dresden side lost its rhythm due to a number of changes, the visitors managed to tie the set and carried the momentum into the fourth period. In the decisive tie-break, however, the hosts were able to show off their strengths better again and converted their first match point to win after 118 minutes.
