The ThSV Eisenach handball team got off to the best possible start after the World Cup break. Coach Misha Kaufmann's charges came out on top 34:31 (14:14) against TBV Lemgo Lippe in the Werner Aßmann-Halle at home. The team notched up only its third win in the club's history in Germany's top division against its fearsome opponents.
German international Marko Grgic (10 goals) and Italian international Simone Mengon (10) played the biggest part in the Thuringians' ninth win of the season. Manuel Zehnder (8) and Tim Suton (6) scored the most goals for the club from East Westphalia.
The club from Eisenach missed the opening spell and trailed 5:9 after 16 minutes. The club from Thuringia gradually fought its way back until the break and took the lead for the first time shortly before the break through Grgic (14:13). Shortly after the restart, the club from Thuringia had already decided the game in advance when it pulled 20:16 ahead in the 38th minute. The home side did not let this lead slip from its grasp.
