Max Eberl has to leave RB Leipzig - the surprising sacking is also linked to rumors about FC Bayern. In Munich, Uli Hoeneß now comments on the case.

Bayern Munich's honorary president Uli Hoeneß has expressed restraint about Max Eberl's sacking at RB Leipzig. "This is not my decision or our decision," said the long-time club patron of the record soccer champion on Friday evening when asked about the surprising news at the league rival. The Saxons had previously parted ways with sports director Eberl after less than a year - and just a day before the Bundesliga top game just against the Bavarians (Saturday, 18.30 clock/Sky).

Hoeneß was asked on the sidelines of the basketball game of FC Bayern against the Syntainics MBC, whether the development at RB now means that Eberl is free for a possible commitment in Munich and that Hoeneß would like to have him at the club. "What that all means...", answered Hoeneß before journalists and then added: "I can say nothing at all about it."

The Leipziger had separated from Eberl, who had only been committed in December 2022, because they criticized the "lack of commitment" with the native of Lower Bavaria and former junior player of FC Bayern. According to dpa information, the issue was repeated hesitant commitment to RB Leipzig. On Wednesday, Eberl had been linked by "Sport Bild" with the job as sports director at his heart's club Bayern Munich. The 50-year-old responded only with empty phrases. Hoeneß wanted to lure Eberl to Munich several years ago.
