A substance banned in competition has been found in the conspicuous doping sample of professional ice hockey player Dane Fox. As announced by the German National Anti Doping Agency (Nada), a sports law results management procedure was initiated against the forward of the second division leaders Dresdner Eislöwen on January 27 of this year.
According to the report, Fox tested positive for tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). The presence or use of the so-called specific substance is prohibited in competition. A provisional suspension has not been imposed. According to the Nada, a provisional suspension is not mandatory for specific substances.
Suspicious sample shortly before Christmas
According to the second-division club, which made the proceedings public on Thursday, the Canadian-born player has been suspended from competition for this weekend's games as a precautionary measure. As Eislöwen sports director Matthias Roos explained, the sample was taken during a game shortly before Christmas.
"Dane Fox has been asked to make a statement by the beginning of next week. It is important to us to fully clarify the issue and to support Dane in doing so. However, it is clear to us, also for reasons of fairness to the other teams, that he will not be in the squad this weekend and we
will not call him up," emphasized Roos.
Fox moved to Dresden from the Nuremberg Ice Tigers last summer and is currently the league leaders' top scorer with 43 points from 39 games.
