A break at FC Carl Zeiss Jena in the most important sporting decision-making positions. After sports director Stefan Böger had already announced his departure at the beginning of the year, coach Henning Bürger is now also leaving the regional soccer league club at the end of the season. At least there is now a successor for Böger: Miroslav Jovic will take over the position of sporting director on March 1 and thus the personnel and squad planning for the coming season.
The fact that he will also have to look for a new coach first is not the biggest surprise. Bürger had already had to take an extended break at the end of the year for health reasons and was replaced on the bench by Böger. "It was Henning Bürger who consistently relied on his own young talent, gave players the necessary support and a lot of confidence when they made the step up to the men's game and managed to put an attractive and successful team on the pitch. We must and want to continue on this path started by Henning after June 30," said Carl Zeiss managing director Patrick Widera.
Jovic knows the club very well
With Jovic, Jena is relying on a man who has known the club very well for more than 20 years. The Serbian-born player played for the Thuringians for five years, after which he held various positions at the club. He was assistant coach of the first team, scout, youth coach and most recently sporting director of the youth training center. As sporting director, he was given a contract until 2027.
