Bayern goalscorer Harry Kane said goodbye to the Christmas vacations with big goals after the Munich goalfest at the end of the year, even without scoring himself. "That's the benchmark for all games," said the 31-year-old Englishman after the 5:1 in the Bundesliga against RB Leipzig.
His return three weeks after a torn muscle fiber did the German soccer record champion a lot of good, the offensive department delivered again. Kane spoke of a "dominant performance" and, looking ahead to 2025, said: "It was a great way to end the year. We've got to take that into the new year."
The team will then go into the second half of the season as league leaders with at least a four-point lead. "We've put pressure on the competition," said the goalscorer with a view to the games of the chasing pack this weekend. "I'm happy to be back. It's tough to watch from the outside," said the center forward about his injury break.
Dreesen: Into the new year with plenty of confidence
Jamal Musiala, Joshua Kimmich, Konrad Laimer, Leroy Sané and Alphonso Davies scored against a clearly inferior Leipzig side. "It was too little in all areas," said sporting director Marcel Schäfer: "Bayern did well and showed that they are a top team."
Bayern's CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen spoke of "a wonderful end to a not always easy year" for his club.
