Magdeburg attack: Room defends itself against hate messages

Football international David Raum has reported "nasty hate messages" and defended his behavior and that of some of his teammates after the game in Munich. Bayern's CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen had asked supporters of both clubs for a minute's silence for the victims of the Magdeburg attack after the final whistle. This was only held after a delay, as Raum and other Leipzig players were on the pitch to run out.

"Some players and I did runs on the pitch immediately after the game and thus upset some people in the stadium. Due to a lack of communication, we didn't know about the tragedy in Magdeburg at that moment and didn't understand the stadium announcer because of the whistles, otherwise we would have stopped immediately!" Raum wrote on Instagram. The run-out after Leipzig's 5-1 defeat was met with a whistle.

Too little time

It was only when a coach rushed to the players and informed them that they stopped the run-out. According to dpa, Leipzig's CEO Johann Plenge contacted Dreesen on Saturday night and explained the circumstances. According to this, there was not enough time to inform all employees about the events in Magdeburg. In addition, there was the unrest over the serious injury to Benjamin Henrichs (Achilles tendon tear).

The original plan was for FC Bayern to hold a Christmas show after the last home game of the year. However, this was canceled at short notice after the Magdeburg fatality with five fatalities and 200 injuries so far. The information about the change reached the Leipzig team in good time, but there was not enough time to inform everyone in the entourage of up to 40 people.
