Marco Rose is forced to make several changes to the squad at his former club Mainz. Nevertheless, he wants to maintain his streak, even if Mainz would like to be his "fearful opponent".

Nicolas Seiwald will miss RB Leipzig at 1. FSV Mainz 05. The Austrian international suffered an adductor injury in the international match against the Norwegian national team. "He'll definitely be out for the next English week," said RB head coach Marco Rose ahead of the game at his former club, where he wants to extend his unbeaten run of 17 Bundesliga games across the season.

However, things have not gone so well for Leipzig against FSV recently. The team only won twice - in 2017 and 2020 - against the club from Rheinhessen. The last RB goal against the 05s was scored by current Chelsea striker Christopher Nkunku in a 1-1 draw on October 8, 2022, and the Saxons have not scored since. Leipzig's last three games ended 0:3, 0:2 and 0:0.

"If there's anyone I'd like to be scared of, it's my former club Mainz 05," said Rose, adding: "FSV Mainz have always caused us problems in recent years, but we're going there tomorrow to decide the game in our favor." Even if Mainz come "with unity, compactness and stability".

Raum replacement still questionable

Who at RB is to compensate for the absence of international David Raum (foot operation) is still questionable. "We have many options. Benjamin Henrichs, whose back problems have subsided, and Castello Lukeba are options. Lutsharel Geertruida has also played the position at Feyenoord," said Rose.

El Chadaille Bitshiabu could also play this role, said the head coach. But nobody can really replace Raum. "These guys are different types of players to David, which is why we have to adapt one or two details in our system step by step," explained Rose, who also has the Champions League game against Liverpool FC next Wednesday (21:00/DAZN) in mind.
