Marcel Bär, who has just undergone successful surgery on his ruptured Achilles tendon, will stay with FC Erzgebirge Aue for another season. The third-division club announced that the striker's contract has been extended until the end of the coming season thanks to a clause.
"Marcel Bär has reached the number of competitive matches agreed in writing, meaning that his contract with FC Erzgebirge Aue has been automatically extended by one year," said sporting director Matthias Heidrich. "That gives him the backing and security he needs to avoid facing an uncertain future in the midst of injury from the summer of 2025."
Third best in the 3rd division
Bär suffered the tear during the 4-1 defeat at Hansa Rostock last Wednesday when he was tackled without interference from an opponent. The 32-year-old underwent surgery in Braunschweig at the end of the week.
Bär has scored 27 goals in 60 competitive games for Aue so far. He is the club's top scorer with eleven goals in the season that has now ended prematurely for him. Bär is third in the all-time scoring list of the 3rd division with 79 goals. Anton Fink leads the ranking with 136 goals, second is Zlatko Janjic with 81 goals.
