After heavy snowfall, only one race run is held for the women. Olympic champion Neise looks like the winner for a long time in the rain. Kreher achieves her first podium.

The German skeleton athletes secured two podium places at the start of the home World Cup in Altenberg. Beijing Olympic champion Hannah Neise looked like the sure winner for a long time before Belgian Kim Meylemans raced to first place with a high start number. And Susanne Kreher from BSC Sachsen Oberbärenburg also overtook the Winterberg athlete on her home track by a hundredth of a second, relegating her to third place.

Neise takes the lead in the overall World Cup

"After the race delay, the wait in the leader's box was more unpleasant, because you had to stand down here in the rain. But it was nice to be in the leader's box for so long again," said the 24-year-old Neise, who took the lead in the overall World Cup after two second places and a sixth place.

First podium for Kreher

For the 25-year-old Kreher, it was her first podium after the botched Asian tour. "Who would have thought it with the weather, the start number and the crazy race with just one run. It's such a load off my mind that it worked out like this. I'm really proud of myself that it worked out like this," said the 2023 world champion.
