Halle (dpa) The SV Union Halle-Neustadt women's handball team maintained their home credentials and scored two important points in the battle to stay in the league. Coach Till Wiechers' charges came out on top against bottom-placed Sport-Union Neckarsulm 28:26 (14:15) on Saturday, thus consolidating their place in the midfield of the German elite league. Julia Niewiadomska (7/3), Emma Herta (5) and Cecilie Woller (4) played the biggest part in their third win of the season. Fatos Kücükyildiz (6/5), Agni Zygoura (5) and Amber Verbraeken and Alessia Riner (4 each) scored the most goals for the visitors.
The team from Halle had the game and their opponents under control at the start. The home side was 13:9 ahead after 23 minutes. However, Neckarsulm turned the game around in the first half with a 6:0 run to 15:13 (29'). However, the home side went back in front with three goals in succession to make it 19:17 (40'), but was not able to pull away decisively. It became tense at 26:26 (58'), but the home side kept its nerve in the hectic final phase and saved the narrow victory.
