The basketball players of Syntainics MBC were unable to score any bonus points in the battle to stay in the league. The club from Weißenfels lost the duel against Alba Berlin 67:76 (37:38) in front of a home crowd on Sunday. Despite its 20th defeat of the season, the MBC still has a two-win lead over the relegation zone. Matt Thomas (16), Justin Bean (13), Kresimir Nikic (11) and Tim Schneider (10) played the biggest part in the third-placed team's success. Johnathan Stove (16), Charles Callison (15), Vince Edwards (11) and Martin Breunig (10) scored the most points for the home side.
The home side got off to the better start and decided the first quarter 22:16 in its favor. However, the game then broke. The favorites went on a 14:2 run to take a 30:24 lead and were 46:39 ahead in the 24th minute. However, the club from Weißenfels did not allow itself to be shaken off and turned the tide in the third quarter. The final ten minutes began with the MBC leading 54:53. The Albatrosses stepped up their intensity in the final spell and pulled 68:61 (34') to 73:65 (39'). Berlin benefited first and foremost from its superiority under the boards and snapped up 16 offensive rebounds, compared to just two for the MBC. The favorites were thus also able to compensate for their weak shooting percentage from the field of just 35 percent compared to 43 percent for Weißenfels.
