People in Saxony are making active use of the new repair bonus. In the first six weeks, 1,116 applications for the subsidy for the repair of electrical appliances were received, the Sächsische Aufbaubank (SAB) in Leipzig announced on request. The grant for the repair of cell phones was applied for most frequently, followed by washing machines, coffee machines, dishwashers and televisions.
The repair bonus was launched at the beginning of November. The Ministry of the Environment is making up to 1.25 million euros available this year and next. The bonus applies to repairs that cost at least 75 euros. Funding is 50 percent, with the maximum grant being 200 euros. The Ministry of the Environment hopes that this will reduce waste and save raw materials.
As of December 15, the SAB had approved 1,045 applications with a volume of just under 108,000 euros. This resulted in an average grant of 103 euros per application. Between 30 and 40 new applications were received every day.
So far, the grant has only been paid out for the repair of electrical appliances. The appliances must be repaired by a company that is on the SAB list of participating repair companies. According to the Aufbaubank, the ministry is planning to extend the bonus to the repair of other consumer goods in the long term.
