Inflation in Saxony rose to 2.7 percent in April. Housing and energy prices mainly responsible.

Inflation rose slightly again in Saxony in April. Annual inflation is expected to be 2.7 percent, according to the State Statistical Office in Kamenz on Monday. In March, it was still at 2.5 percent, but in January it was still at 3.5 percent. According to the statistics, consumer prices are expected to have risen by 0.6 percent compared to March.

The state office blames the slight upward trend in annual inflation primarily on higher prices for housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels (up three percent). Annual inflation for food and non-alcoholic beverages fell by 0.1 percent, while prices for alcoholic beverages and tobacco products were 5.0 percent higher. Vegetables cost 7.2 percent less than in the same month last year, dairy products and eggs 6.9 percent less and fish and seafood 3.5 percent less than a year ago.
