Pantomime Theater Festival with artists from six countries

The art without words is understood in all languages: Pantomime. At its 38th edition next week, the Pantomime Theater Festival in Dresden will present artists and ensembles from Mexico, Estonia, Portugal, France, Germany and Switzerland. As the organizers announced on Friday, seven performances are planned at the Theaterhaus Rudi from 8 to 12 November. The entire spectrum of modern movement theater will play a role: classical pantomime as well as dance, mask play and artistry.

This weekend, fans can already try their hand at a workshop on facial expressions, gestures and body language. It will be led by Rafael Degar and Patricia Vázquez from Teatro Súbito in Mexico and is aimed at beginners and advanced performers alike.

Dresden mime Ralf Herzog founded the festival together with a colleague in the early 1980s. Celebrities such as Marcel Marceau and Clown Dimitri from Switzerland have also been guests. In the GDR, Dresden was considered the center of pantomime alongside Berlin and Jena. At the current festival, an exhibition commemorates Marcel Marceau (1923-2007), who was one of the most famous mimes in the world and influenced generations of artists. He would have been 100 years old this year.
