Slightly more money was donated to the state-wide Stollenpfennig campaign last Advent than in the previous year. According to Diakonie Sachsen, almost 25,151 euros were collected for the aid organization "Brot für die Welt". At just over 50 euros, this was slightly more than in 2023.
"We are also feeling the uncertainties more and more," said Diakonie board member Kathleen Westphal. "I am therefore all the more pleased that so many people have once again donated to the Stollenpfennig and shown a sign of solidarity."
Since 1994, bakers in Bavaria have been setting up collection tins in their stores in the run-up to Christmas under the motto "We have stollen, others don't even have bread". Customers can put change in them when buying stollen and other baked goods. According to Diakonie, a total of over 800,000 euros has now been collected for projects against hunger, poverty, malnutrition and unjust living conditions in the world.
Drop in donations since 2020
Around 430 bakeries took part in the 31st edition. Proceeds have fallen since the record year of 2020 with over 38,000 euros - in 2021 it was around 34,000 euros, in 2022 almost 28,500 euros and in 2023 just under 25,100.
