About one in six people in Saxony live below the poverty line. This puts the Free State in the middle of the field in a comparison of federal states, according to the poverty report by the parity welfare association. According to the report, the poverty rate in Saxony is 16.1 percent - slightly above the national average of 15.5 percent.
In comparison to the previous year (15.5 percent), the poverty rate in Saxony has risen slightly, according to the data. However, the figure has been higher in the past - at 16.3 percent in 2021, for example. According to the poverty report, the most poor people live in Bremen, followed by Saxony-Anhalt, and the fewest in Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg.
In Germany, anyone with a monthly net income of less than 1,381 euros is considered poor. For a family of four with two children under the age of 14, the figure is €2,900. According to the definition, anyone below this amount does not have enough to participate adequately in social life.
