Important foundations for life are laid during childhood and adolescence. An award is intended to honor those who make a special contribution during this time.

This year's German Daycare Prize goes to the Regenbogenland daycare center in Rötha, Saxony. The jury was particularly impressed by the way the team organizes everyday life based on the needs of the families and the interests of the children, according to the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs and the German Children and Youth Foundation, which award the German Daycare Prize once a year. "Important issues are discussed in the entire community," said the organizers.

In the category "Local Alliance for Early Education of the Year", the North Rhine-Westphalian alliance Dortmunder Nordstadt took first place. According to the ministry and the foundation, the jury was impressed by how the alliance inspires young people in a highly stressed district to take part in educational and cultural activities and enables low-threshold participation.

Kindergarten children have plans for the prize money

The first prizes are endowed with 25,000 euros each. They were awarded in Berlin. The children from the Regenbogenland daycare center in Rötha already had plans for what they wanted to use the prize money for: "If we win, we want to build a zoo". The Dortmunder Nordstadt alliance wants to use the money for films in the family centers, among other things, according to alliance leader Ulrike Korbach.

The German Daycare Prize has been awarded since 2018. It is intended to promote quality in early childhood education and recognize people's commitment to it. "They do invaluable work," said Federal Minister for Family Affairs Lisa Paus (Greens) in her opening speech.
