The Literary Autumn Festival brings authors from Germany and abroad to Leipzig. Several contributors come with prizes in their luggage.

A number of female authors who have been honored with major awards this year are expected at the Literary Autumn in Leipzig next week. Martina Hefter, who only received the German Book Prize on Monday, will read from her award-winning novel "Hey guten Morgen, wie geht es dir?". She will appear together with her husband Jan Kuhlbrodt, who will read from his book "Krüppelpassion".

The Peace Prize winner of the German Book Trade, Anne Applebaum, is also coming to Leipzig. According to the organizers, she will speak about her journalistic and historical work on autocratic systems.

Breadth of literature at the festival

The literature festival will be held from October 21 to 27. The organizers have invited 60 authors to Leipzig. They announced that the festival will offer the whole spectrum of "what literature wants and can do - bold, poetic, literary, clever, political, exciting".

Debut novels with a permanent place in the program

As in previous years, the organizers are offering young writers a platform. Clemens Böckmann, Lilli Polansky, Alexander Schnickmann and Ruth-Maria Thomas will read in the "Best First Books" format. The latter was longlisted for the German Book Prize with "The Most Beautiful Version".

Established authors will also be coming to Literary Autumn. Among others, exiled Russian author Maria Stepanova will read from her work "Der Absprung", accompanied by her editor Katharina Raabe and translator Olga Radetzkaja. Things get political with Jens Bisky, who will present his study "Die Entscheidung. Germany 1929 to 1934" about the final years of the Weimar Republic.
