The jewels stolen from the Dresden Green Vault and later recovered intact are only worth a good half of their original value. Before the spectacular burglary in 2019, they were estimated to be worth around 128.6 million euros, according to the Ministry of Culture's response to a question from Rico Gebhardt, parliamentary group leader of the Left Party in the state parliament, on the damage assessment. According to the latest estimate, its value is now only just under 76.1 million euros. The restoration costs for the jewelry, which the State Art Collections could only access to a limited extent due to the ongoing criminal proceedings in the case, were estimated at just under 127,000 euros.
The value of the previously missing epaulette (shoulder set) with the "Saxon White", a nearly 50-carat piece from the diamond set, and the large breast bow is reported at a total of around 37.9 million euros.
The theft of art from the Saxon Treasury Museum on November 25, 2019 in Dresden's Royal Palace made international headlines. The perpetrators stole 21 pieces of jewelry with diamonds and diamonds worth more than 100 million euros and caused extensive damage to property. In mid-May 2003, five young men from the well-known Berlin Remmo clan were convicted as perpetrators by the Dresden District Court; four cases are still under appeal. In the course of probing for a possible agreement between the defense, prosecution and court, a large part of the loot was returned at the end of 2022, several pieces of which were severely damaged - some of the most valuable works of art are still missing.
