RB Leipzig have celebrated a must-win in their fight to stay in the Bundesliga. The promoted team won 3:0 (1:0) against the winless bottom team MSV Duisburg on Sunday. Jenny Hipp (42nd minute/foul penalty, 70th) and Lydia Andrade (62nd) scored for Leipzig in the RB Academy. The Saxons thus extended their lead over the first relegation spot to four points and moved up to ninth place in the 12-team league.
After the expected defeats in Wolfsburg and Munich, Leipzig went into the match against Duisburg as favorites. Coach Saban Uzun's players accepted their role and dominated proceedings. However, his players were repeatedly thwarted by the strong MSV goalkeeper Ena Mahmutovic. A foul on the energetic Mimmi Larsson led to a penalty and the deserved lead shortly before the break.
Leipzig remained superior and ensured the preliminary decision half an hour before the end. On a counter-attack, Larsson spotted the better-positioned Andrade, crossed in the penalty area and the Swiss striker pushed the ball over the line. Practically everything went right after that. Less than ten minutes later, Hipp converted a corner directly. It was the third direct corner in the last two matchdays.
