The Bundesliga footballers from RB Leipzig have taken a big step towards staying in the league. The promoted team won 1:0 (0:0) against Bayer Leverkusen on Friday evening and secured their fourth home win in a row. Mimmi Larsson (83rd minute) scored the decisive goal in front of 1042 spectators at the RB Training Academy. The team of coach Saban Uzun, whose contract in Leipzig was not renewed and ends after the season, are now ninth in the table and eight points clear of the relegation zone.
The Rhinelanders, who are fifth in the table, started confidently and were largely in control of the game. However, Leipzig were dogged and combative and thwarted Bayer's few chances. Things didn't get any better after the break in the incessant rain. Most of the action took place between the two penalty areas, with both teams remaining harmless in the box. Until the 83rd minute, when Sweden's Larsson scored practically out of nowhere. First she left two opponents standing, then she took off from the edge of the box and scored into the left corner for a much-acclaimed victory.
