Anja Mittag worked for the Saxon club for six years and even laced up her own soccer boots. Now the Olympic champion is looking for new challenges abroad.

Anja Mittag will not be extending her contract as assistant coach at women's Bundesliga club RB Leipzig and will leave the club at the end of the season. This was announced by the club.

"I have decided to take a new career path. The opportunity to work abroad as an individual coach opens up exciting prospects for me to develop further as a coach," said the 39-year-old.

Mittag came to Leipzig in 2019. She initially supported the team as a player and was promoted to the Bundesliga 2 with them. In the 2020/21 season, she joined the functional team as assistant coach and ended her career as an active player. Due to personnel shortages, however, she returned to the pitch and contributed six goals in 13 short appearances.

From the 2021/22 season onwards, the Olympic and World Champion and Champions League winner was exclusively an assistant coach and contributed to the promotion of the RB women to the Bundesliga.
