Trinity was regarded as the flagship project of former VW boss Diess, but the e-car is a long time coming. The model of the future still needs a few more years.

The start of production of the Trinity electric car has been delayed at Volkswagen. The future model will not be built until 2030 at the earliest, according to company sources. The car was originally due to be launched in 2026. However, Group CEO Oliver Blume postponed the launch by at least a year and a half shortly after taking office in order to have more time to develop the software. The "Handelsblatt" had previously reported.

The reason for the delays is likely to be the weakening demand for electric cars and the cost-cutting measures at VW. The Group's profit fell by four percent to 3.63 billion euros in the second quarter. Blume said at the beginning of the month: "Now it's all about costs, costs and costs. Especially for the Volkswagen brand, but also for all other brands."

Trinity was the flagship project of former VW boss Herbert Diess, who wanted to have the car built in his own plant in Wolfsburg. Now, however, the model is to be produced in Zwickau, VW's e-car pioneer. This would make the site, which employs around 10,000 people, the first to use the new SSP platform. VW recently canceled a shift at the plant.
