More and more people are sharing a car. The car-sharing provider Teilauto is also growing in Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia: more users, more vehicles, more electric cars.

The number of car sharing users in Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia is growing. According to the German Carsharing Association, almost 1,400 municipalities in Germany now offer car sharing - and the trend is rising. Demand is also increasing in the three federal states.

Car sharing continues to grow

The most widespread provider in Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia reported 88,000 registered users at the beginning of the year - an increase of more than 14 percent compared to the previous year. Including the so-called "City Flitzer" in Leipzig - vehicles that can be used without fixed stations within the city - there are now 11,000 more customers than a year ago, according to Teilauto.

The company's vehicle fleet also grew: Teilauto reports an increase of 250 cars to around 2,050 vehicles. A good half of the new additions are electric cars, which now account for 17.5 percent of the station-based range.

In addition, the station network was expanded by 100 new locations. Teilauto now operates a total of 980 fixed car sharing stations. "By 2025
there will probably be over 1,000 vehicle locations in central Germany where at least one car sharing car is available around the clock," said Commercial Director Michael Creutzer. Cooperation with local authorities is being steadily expanded.

Growth in Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia

Leipzig remains the largest car-sharing location in Saxony with 42,400 authorized drivers - an increase of 15 percent. In Dresden, 23,300 people drove with the provider at the beginning of the year (up 14 percent), while Chemnitz recorded the largest growth of 19 percent with 1,900 users.

In Saxony-Anhalt, Halle leads the car sharing market with 4,500 authorized users (up 12 percent). Magdeburg follows with 2,100 users (up 17 percent). There are smaller locations in Dessau-Roßlau, Merseburg and Wittenberg, among others.

Demand is also growing in Thuringia: Erfurt is in the lead with 4,800 users (up 9 percent), followed by Jena with 4,100 (up 17 percent). Weimar also continued to grow with 1,900 passengers (up 12 percent).
