Saxon tradespeople are hoping that the master craftsman bonus will be increased soon. The bonus, which currently amounts to 2,000 euros, is paid to tradespeople who successfully pass their master craftsman examination.
Other federal states such as Lower Saxony or Bremen grant 4,000 euros, in Berlin it is even 5,000 euros, according to the Dresden Chamber of Crafts. Therefore, the bonus must also be increased and doubled in Saxony as quickly as possible.
Bonus rewards successful completion
People who want to complete a master craftsman's degree have to bear a much higher financial burden than students. The bonus rewards successful completion. It is therefore a building block for the equivalence of dual and academic training.
The CDU campaigned for the state elections last year with the intention of doubling the master craftsman bonus. In the coalition agreement, the CDU and SPD agreed to increase the subsidy "with the aim of doubling it."
Master craftsman bonus to be discussed at budget meeting
However, it is unclear when this will happen due to the tight budgets in Saxony. The master craftsman bonus will be discussed in the upcoming budget negotiations, a spokeswoman for the Ministry of Economic Affairs said on request. A two-day budget meeting of the cabinet will begin on Monday in Roßwein.
"Due to the budget situation and the necessary savings in the upcoming double budget, it is currently not possible to predict how and when it will be possible to implement the mandate from the coalition agreement," said the Ministry of Economic Affairs.
The master craftsman bonus was introduced in Saxony in 2016. Initially, new master craftsmen received a 1,000 euro subsidy. At the beginning of 2023, the bonus was increased to 2,000 euros.
