In the VW collective bargaining round, the company and IG Metall ended the first day of negotiations shortly after midnight. The talks are to continue on Tuesday at 10 a.m., according to an IG Metall spokesperson. Until then, there will be an overnight break in negotiations. Negotiations lasted a total of 13 hours on the first day.
The possibly decisive round of negotiations began late Monday morning. Around 70 representatives of the company and IG Metall met in Hanover for their fifth meeting. In a marathon of negotiations, they want to try and reach an agreement before Christmas. According to IG Metall, it is not possible to estimate how long the talks will take.
Volkswagen is demanding a ten percent pay cut due to the Group's difficult situation. Plant closures and compulsory redundancies are still on the table. IG Metall, on the other hand, is demanding the retention of all sites and an employment guarantee for the approximately 130,000 employees. It rejects permanent cuts to monthly wages.
