The ADAC's breakdown service was called out many thousands of times last year. One day in January saw a particularly high number of calls for help.

Battery or engine problems: last year, the ADAC in Saxony was called out to more than 107,000 breakdown services. This is roughly the same level as in 2023, according to the ADAC. The most common reason for the helpers being called out was faulty car batteries (45 percent). In 22 percent of all breakdowns, the engine or engine management system had failed.

All over Germany, ADAC breakdown services were called out more frequently last year: they were called out over 3.6 million times - a good 102,000 more than in 2023. January was the month with the most call-outs: With around 377,000 emergency calls, the helpers had to go out particularly frequently. January 9 stood out in particular - there were almost 20,000 call-outs on this day.

More breakdowns with electric cars

According to the ADAC, the increased number of call-outs is due to the higher average age of cars on German roads, which is now 10.6 years.

Electric cars also broke down more frequently in 2024. ADAC roadside assistance was called out to electric vehicles over 43,600 times - an increase of 46 percent compared to the previous year.

In addition, more and more cyclists turned to the ADAC: roadside assistance was called out around 17,000 times - an increase of eight percent. In more than two thirds of cases, a flat tire was the reason for the emergency call.
