The VW General Works Council wants to react to the "inadequate information policy" of the Board of Management. It is high time to make the car manufacturer fit for the future.

With events at all German VW plants, the Works Councils want to respond to what they see as the Board of Management's inadequate information policy. "The Board of Management has still not presented a coherent overall concept for how it intends to strategically lead Volkswagen into the future with the right products, processes and plans," criticized Daniela Cavallo, Chairwoman of the General Works Council.

The meetings will therefore take place on 28 October in Braunschweig, Chemnitz, Dresden, Emden, Hanover, Kassel, Osnabrück, Wolfsburg, Salzgitter and Zwickau. The aim is to inform the workforce about the crisis talks held to date between the General Works Council and the employer. "The Board of Management is still not taking plant closures, mass redundancies and wage cuts off the table," it said.

VW announced at the beginning of September that it would have to make substantial savings at its core brand. The previously planned job cuts through partial retirement and severance payments would no longer be sufficient to achieve the planned savings targets. Plant closures and compulsory redundancies at the core VW brand can no longer be ruled out.
