Two out of five fail their practical driving test in Saxony

Two out of five learner drivers in Saxony failed the practical test for their car driving license in 2024. The proportion was slightly higher at 44 percent for the theoretical test, according to data from the TÜV association. This means that the rates remain at the same level as the previous year.

Saxony in the midfield

In a Germany-wide comparison, Saxony is therefore in the midfield. The lowest proportion of learner drivers failed the practical test in Schleswig-Holstein (32 percent) and the highest in Hamburg (48 percent). In contrast, the proportion of theory failures was lowest in Hamburg (36 percent) and highest in Berlin and Saxony-Anhalt (both 50 percent).

Germany-wide, 45 percent of theory tests and 37 percent of practical tests were failed. Young learner drivers did particularly well. Among under-18s, only a good third failed the theory test and just under a quarter failed the practical test.

Fewer attempts at cheating in Saxony

While there were significantly more attempts at cheating on the theory test nationwide last year, the number in Saxony fell slightly. In total, there were 4,198 attempts to cheat in around two million examinations in all classes last year, 439 more than in 2023. In Saxony, the number fell from 93 to 88 in around 81,000 theory examinations.
