The solar manufacturer Meyer Burger has sealed the final end for its site in Freiberg, with more than 400 employees losing their jobs.

The solar manufacturer Meyer Burger has sealed the final end for its site in Freiberg, Saxony. The approximately 500 employees received their notice on Tuesday, said a company spokeswoman. This means that more than 400 people will lose their jobs. The others had been offered contracts in other companies of the Swiss group.

This was preceded by Finance Minister Christian Lindner's (FDP) rejection of the so-called resilience bonus, which was intended to protect manufacturers under pressure in Europe. Meyer Burger had made the future of the Freiberg site dependent on this support. According to the spokesperson, production had already been at a standstill since mid-March.

The company posted a significant loss last year, citing strong competition from cheap solar modules from China as the reason.
