Two cross-border projects in Muskauer Park and Upper Lusatia will receive 3.8 million euros from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). According to the Ministry of Infrastructure in Dresden, a total of 28 cross-border projects are being supported with 36.6 million euros in the current funding period. "It is an important task to preserve and protect the diverse natural and cultural heritage in the Saxon-Polish border region," said Infrastructure Minister Regina Kraushaar (CDU).
The commitment to Muskauer Park and the Muskauer Faltenbogen Geopark and a German-Polish architectural trail are evidence of the dedicated and creative cooperation on both sides of the Neisse, said the minister. Such projects bring people together, create encounters and make Europe visible on the ground. Further ideas are welcome, "the EU funding is there!".
In concrete terms, the "Alte Grube Babina" geological trail is to be extended to include a recreational area and 2.8 kilometers of footpath and cycle path. In addition, exhibitions on industrial history and competitions on climate protection and geology are intended to raise awareness of the Unesco sites. A regional product market will support local producers and craftspeople. The towns of Szklarska Poręba in the Giant Mountains and Seifhennersdorf in Upper Lusatia are creating a knowledge center for architecture, a mini-museum and a partly multimedia geological exhibition.
Over 60 million euros in EU funding until 2027
A total of 60.3 million euros is available for cross-border projects in the Interreg Poland - Saxony program until 2027 - in the areas of innovation and competitiveness, climate change and sustainability, education, lifelong learning, culture and tourism as well as partnership cooperation, according to the ministry.
