With 8.14 million guests and almost 20 million overnight stays, Saxony's hostels achieved their best result since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic in 2024. According to the State Statistical Office in Kamenz, the figures were up 2.7 percent on the previous year in terms of guest numbers and 0.6 percent in terms of overnight stays. "However, the figures from the record year of 2019 have not yet been reached again."
Increase mainly in vacation apartments and houses
The most significant increases were recorded by vacation homes and apartments, with an increase of nine percent in guests and 1.2 percent in overnight stays. These figures are more than a third and a quarter higher than in 2019 respectively.
Regionally, seven of the nine travel regions in the Free State recorded an increase in visitors, with the largest growth in the state capital of Dresden with 2.27 million guests and an increase of 7.8 percent. The Upper Lusatia-Lower Silesia region also saw further growth with 2.02 million overnight stays and an increase of 1.5 percent compared to 2023.
Significantly more guests from abroad
The number of foreign tourists rose by an above-average eight percent each to 952,000 and their overnight stays to 2.17 million - almost 112,000 and thus almost 12 percent came from the neighboring country of Poland.
