The 12th Saxon Theatertreffen starts in Leipzig on Tuesday evening (6 pm) at the Theater der Jungen Welt in Leipzig. The festival will be opened by Culture Minister Barbara Klepsch (CDU), as announced by her ministry on Tuesday. "With their artistic work, Saxony's theaters make a contribution to a cosmopolitan and forward-looking society in the Free State," Klepsch was quoted as saying in the press release. Accordingly, she has once again assumed the patronage this year.
The 12th Saxon Theatertreffen in Leipzig is intended to reflect the diversity of the theater landscape in the Free State. According to co-organizer Schauspiel Leipzig, eleven theaters will be sending productions to the meeting. These include a classroom play as well as a 360-degree film with virtual reality glasses. More than 30 events will take place on 13 stages over the six days of the festival. A jury will award a festival prize at the end. The festival takes place every two years at a different theater in Saxony.
