Numerous castles and palaces in the Czech Republic invite you to Christmas markets, exhibitions and concerts during the Advent season. In the castle courtyard of Decin (Tetschen) on the border with Saxony, stalls with culinary delights and handicrafts await visitors on December 17. Local choirs and orchestras will provide live music, according to the organizers. How Christmas was celebrated in the 19th century at the castle in Doksy in northern Bohemia will be shown on 9 December with guided tours featuring actors in historical costumes.
Further south, Cesky Krumlov (Bohemian Krumlov) shines in Christmas splendor. The Unesco World Heritage Site is around 70 kilometers from Passau. The Christmas market is located in the medieval old town. On December 24 from 10.00 a.m., the bears kept in the moat traditionally receive presents in the form of cookies and fruit. This is accompanied by the sound of Christmas fanfares from the castle tower. Almost 40 kilometers to the north-east, Trebon Castle offers guided tours of the former royal chambers decorated for Christmas. There is also an Advent market in the castle courtyard on December 16 and 17.
The baroque castle in Zdar nad Sazavou is open all year round. "Every season here has its own magic," chateau owner Constantin Kinsky told the German Press Agency. The aristocrat, who grew up in exile in France, invited visitors to experience the "wonderful tranquillity" of the landscape. On December 16, a Christmas craft workshop for children will be offered for pre-registered visitors, followed by a string concert the next evening. "Creativity is like a muscle, you just have to exercise it," emphasized Kinsky, who is also a well-known patron of the arts.
