Jörg Urban remains the dominant figure in the Saxon AfD. The party leader will continue to lead the parliamentary group in the state parliament for the next five years.

The AfD is relying on continuity in the new state parliament in Saxony. Party leader Jörg Urban was re-elected as parliamentary group leader at the constituent meeting in Siebenlehn. According to the parliamentary group, he received 36 votes in favor, while two MPs voted against him.

The previous Parliamentary Secretary Jan Zwerg was also re-elected. He received 31 votes in favor, six against and two abstentions. Sebastian Wippel, Joachim Keiler and Lars Kuppi were elected deputy group chairmen.

The AfD received 30.6% of the second votes in the state election on September 1, just behind the CDU (31.9%). The AfD has 40 members in the new state parliament.
