Saxon FDP member of parliament Torsten Herbst wants to "honestly and relentlessly" examine the reasons for his party's disastrous performance in the federal elections. The election night was extremely bitter for the Free Democrats. "We now have a long dry spell ahead of us. Nevertheless, I am convinced that there is still room for a party of freedom in Germany in the future," he said.
Herbst: Defeat hurts beyond comprehension
"We accept the result with great humility. Failing to enter the Bundestag is a defeat that hurts beyond comprehension. The race to catch up over the last few days was unfortunately not enough in the end. A Bundestag without the FDP is not only a serious blow for our party, but also for political diversity in our country," emphasized the politician, who served as Parliamentary Secretary of the FDP parliamentary group in the old Bundestag.
According to Herbst, the prospect of possible government coalitions "does not bode well". "Nevertheless, it remains to be hoped in the interests of the country that a new political beginning will succeed."
