A 24-year-old man is said to have set fire to a planned refugee shelter in Leipzig's Thekla district. According to the police, they were informed of the fire by a local resident on Saturday night. A wooden pallet was burning on the wall of the building.
The police officers extinguished the flames with a fire extinguisher from their patrol car and were able to prevent the fire from spreading. Anti-refugee slogans and unconstitutional symbols had also been daubed on the house.
A search of the apartment confirms suspicion
Traces were found at the accommodation, which led the police to a nearby apartment. A public prosecutor ordered a search. This confirmed the suspicion against the 24-year-old. He is now being investigated for aggravated arson and incitement to hatred, among other things.
The city of Leipzig plans to set up shared accommodation in the building. From August, up to 120 people are to be housed there.
