The leadership of the Saxon Greens remains one-headed following the surprising resignation of Christin Furtenbacher. The state executive committee decided that co-chair Marie Müser will continue to lead the party alone in the upcoming federal election campaign, a spokeswoman said. However, a by-election in the event of corresponding wishes and ambitions from the state association was not ruled out.
Müser received 63.5 percent in the first round of voting
At a state assembly at the weekend, the Greens initially re-elected the old committee with the dual leadership. Furtenbacher was the only one of the six members to need a second ballot, with only 57 percent of delegates then confirming her. In the first round, 63.5 percent voted for Müser. The following day, Furtenbacher resigned from office - due to a lack of support and her lack of confidence in a successful federal election campaign.
After the disappointing result in the state elections in September, the state executive committee is only taking on responsibility for the period up to the federal elections in order to use its campaign experience and structures. In spring, the committee wants to clear the way for a fresh start in terms of personnel, Müser explained at the party conference.
