CDU parliamentary group leader is against new debt

In the discussion about a new budget, Saxony's CDU parliamentary group leader Christian Hartmann has confirmed that he wants to manage without new debt. "I have made it clear that, in view of this state budget, it is not necessary to take out new loans," Hartmann told the Leipziger Volkszeitung newspaper.

Saxony can expect to receive more than 400 million euros every year until 2037 through the federal financial package. "However, anyone who believes that everything in Saxony must remain as it is and does not want any structural reforms will of course need additional state loans," he told the newspaper. However, this could not be the right approach.

Hartmann made it clear that, in his view, spending must be prioritized more strongly. "We must manage to shape Saxony's economic development in such a way that there are enough companies and secure jobs to be able to finance our standard of living and prosperity in the long term."

The Saxon state parliament wants to pass a double budget by the summer break. This is considered a challenge due to the difficult majority situation. The coalition of CDU and SPD does not have its own majority in parliament - it is ten votes short.
