Many cultural projects need financial support, and one of the sponsors is the Free State of Bavaria. Now its cultural foundation must also draw on its own reserves for 2025.

The Cultural Foundation of the Free State of Saxony is funding 150 projects in all sectors, from exhibitions and plays to festivals, in the first half of 2025. According to a press release, the board approved around 1.28 million euros for this purpose. This means that every third project can be implemented or continued.

A total of 469 applications with a combined volume of 5.4 million euros were received. The foundation refers to a limited budget for the time being until the 2025/26 double budget is passed by the state parliament.

Foundation must contribute its own funds

For funding in the first half of 2025, the foundation is "drawing on its own funds to a considerable extent", said foundation director Manuel Frey. This will only work for a limited time, but the aim is to send a signal of stability and confidence. "Because one thing is clear, we need art and culture more than ever." That is why it is now supporting a musical theater piece on the industrial cultural history of the region at the Bergbühne Eibenstock, the interdisciplinary festival "De:Oriento" in Chemnitz and the Leipzig Children's Jazz Festival 2025.
