Farmers want to block highway bridges in Saxony during a protest action on Thursday evening. The districts of Görlitz, Bautzen, Meißen, Sächsische Schweiz-Osterzgebirge and West and North Saxony are affected, according to a joint appeal issued on Wednesday by the Saxon State Farmers' Association, the movement "Land schafft Verbindung" and the interest group "Familienbetriebe Land und Forst Sachsen und Thüringen". Specifically, it mentions the highways 4, 9, 13, 14 and 17. The "Your signal, your protest to Berlin!" action is to take place from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The farmers' protests are primarily directed against planned subsidy cuts by the federal government. Over the past few months, demonstrations have taken place repeatedly throughout Germany. Farmers also protested in Saxony, for example thousands of tractors took part in a demonstration in the center of Dresden in mid-January.
