AfD national chairman Tino Chrupalla has won the most first votes in his constituency in Görlitz by a large margin. Even under the new electoral law, he is therefore likely to have the best chance of re-entering parliament. The 49-year-old received 48.9 percent of the first votes in constituency 156. The runner-up - CDU candidate Florian Oest - received 24.2 percent. All other candidates came a long way behind with scores of less than seven percent.
Chrupalla was thus able to improve on his result from the two previous federal elections. In 2017, he narrowly beat Michael Kretschmer, who later became CDU Minister President, with 32.4% to 31.4% of the first votes. Four years later, he prevailed with 35.8 percent against a CDU opponent (26.1 percent).
